Vision

Architecture as a form of healing

Architecture and light — a vision by Barberio Colella Architetti

Tradition as knowledge, not as style

We work on the basis of certain principles inherited from the Mediterranean building tradition: understanding the history of a place, interpreting the climate, using materials coherently, and designing as a unified whole rather than simply adding up specialist elements. We do not replicate the styles of the past, nor do we seek to belong to any particular school; instead, we treat that heritage as a critical tool. It guides us in our choices regarding thicknesses, volumes, proportions, shading, and the relationship between interior and exterior. Tradition is practical knowledge, not an imaginary world to be reproduced.

    Technology as the project’s infrastructure

Digital and computational design tools are an integral part of our approach. We use environmental simulations, parametric modeling, digital fabrication processes and file-to-factory workflows to explore scenarios, test variations and assess the constructability of our solutions.

Technology is not merely an aesthetic choice: it is the infrastructure that brings together form, structure, services, performance and the construction site, ensuring that the project remains clear and feasible.

    Applied research

Every project is an opportunity for research. Prototypes, models, computational tools and digital fabrication processes are not ancillary activities but an integral part of the design process. They serve to transform hypotheses into precise, verifiable solutions that can be shared with those involved in the construction, and to maintain a direct link between the idea and the material.

    For sustainable architecture

When we talk about sustainable architecture, we are not referring solely to energy efficiency. For us, sustainability means reducing material waste, working with clear life cycles, opting for reversible systems wherever possible, and respecting the long-term character of a place, its patterns of use and future maintenance. Innovation only makes sense if it improves the quality of life and the relationship between the building, the climate and the landscape.

A future where building means choosing

We envisage architecture that engages with its surroundings, uses technology thoughtfully, and generates cultural value as well as technical performance. We do not pursue novelty for its own sake: we seek coherence between concept, form, material and process. It is within this balance between reinterpreted tradition, digital design and climate awareness that the direction of our work lies.
